It's Moving Day...Just for the Plants- Part 1

It’s moving day!

When the weather warms up, I start transitioning several of my houseplants outside for the season. This week, that includes my Ficus trees and dracaenas, along with a few others joining the rotation.

The biggest challenge? Avoiding sunburn. My deck gets morning and some midday sun, so I always start my plants off in the shade for a few days to help them acclimate. Once they adjust, I’ll gradually move them into brighter light and arrange everything.

I’m also doing a bit of repotting right now. My Ficus Audrey has roots growing out of the drainage hole and has started dropping leaves, clear signs it’s ready for a larger pot. I recently repotted my fiddle leaf fig as well, and I’m keeping an eye on my dracaena marginata, which may be next.

For the first time, I’m also moving my money tree outside, so I’m curious to see how it handles the change.

This seasonal reset is one of my favorite parts of spring. It’s the start of a new growing cycle, not just for houseplants, but for my outdoor space too, as I begin planning herbs, vegetables, and a refreshed deck setup.

Stay tuned for part 2! The deck will be getting rearranged for spring, and hopefully become another living space for the summer.
