The Outdoor Deck is Ready for Summer!

It’s been a work in progress, but our deck is officially ready for summer! The indoor plants are outside and fully acclimated, and I finally replaced the sad, half-eaten couch cushions. My new garden beds are planted, and I’m obsessed with them.

Previously, I had a collection of planters and containers for my edible garden. Now, everything is growing in just two large elevated planters. The deck feels much less cluttered and chaotic as a result. There are still a bunch planters of houseplants, but its an improvement.

This year, I decided to focus on herbs. I still have one tomato plant and two varieties of peppers, but herbs are the main attraction. Since I use fresh herbs in just about every meal I cook, growing them feels especially rewarding.

One of my favorite ways to start the day is by watering my plants while sipping a cup of coffee. The mornings are not blazing hot, and every now and then I spot a hummingbird visiting my hibiscus tree. Gardening and caring for plants are how I recharge. Spending time outside in the morning helps me get into the right mindset for the day.

The deck is also far enough away from stray basketballs and soccer balls when the kids are playing. On the weekends, my husband grills, and I can sit nearby, enjoy a cold beverage, and chat with him while he cooks.

After planning, planting, and rearranging, it feels good to finally sit back and enjoy the space. I know there will be plenty of weeding, watering, and tinkering ahead, but for now, I’m looking forward to a summer spent outdoors with my family and my plants.
